Residents must notify Dominion Virginia Power when a streetlight is out. The number is listed on your monthly bill (1-888-667-3000). There will be a prompt asking if you are calling regarding a street outage. A representative will ask for your home phone number and the location of the street light in question; however, there is no charge for this service. Dominion usually comes out to make the repair withing 3-5 working days. Remember that the lights will only remain lit if members of the community notify the power company when there is a problem; they do not perform routine maintenance on these lights.
What are the road rules in the community?
The first concern is drivers not stopping at signs and when pulling out of pipestems. This has created a real danger when drivers don't stop or even take the time to look around. We have a lot of small children and pedestrians in our neighborhood and we don't want anyone to get hurt. The second concern is with cars waiting for school buses. Please make sure you're away from the intersection and not interfering with cars coming and going form the neighborhood. Also, please pull all the way out of the traffic lane; we've had several complaints of cars blocking the road.
Who do I contact for snow removal?
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has responsibility for plowing the streets. However, the pipestems are the HOA's responsibility, and we do have a contractor that plows them.
When can I put out trash and recycling?
Please do not put put trash/recycling containers or bags before 4 PM the day prior to pick-up. Trash pick-up for Oakton Ridge is on Tuesday and Friday; Recycling on Tuesday; yard waste on Wednesday. Ensure that your trash and recycling are properly contained so that the debris won't litter the community. All containers should be removed from the curb and properly stored the same day as pick up, if possible. All bins must be removed before 8 AM the day after trash pick-up. Violation notices will be sent to offenders. Please note that no trash or recycling containers may be stored outdoors unless they are properly screened.
What do I do with yard waste?
Please be sure that NO yard wastes are dumped in any of the common areas. Some of the landscaping contractors servicing our neighborhood have done this in the past, so lease let them know that they must haul it away and properly dispose of it. Yard waste pick-up is scheduled in our community for Wednesdays, and they often come quite early. Please do not put yard waste at the curb before 4 PM Tuesday evenings.
